Notes: Ouran's 50th chapter marks the beginning of some new events as it contains the signature humor Hatori-sensei is known for, but also with the added addition of angst rarely seen in the series.
Mori reveals he has a pet of his own, while taking care of a raccoon found on campus. More exciting is that the destination of the school trip for the Ouran second years is France. All the Host Club members wonder how Tamaki is taking this. Will he be able to see his mother? Is he even going? Haruhi's speculations on Tamaki's situation have Hikaru in another emotional fit as he wonders why it bothers him so much that Haruhi is always thinking about Tamaki. The rain pours around the Hitachiin brothers as Kaoru reveals what Hikaru has been blind to all this time.

Notes: More events unfold as Kyoya embarks with the rest of the second years to France, minus one exuberant Host Club King. Meanwhile, the two Hitachiin brothers independently seek guidance from their senpais - Kaoru from Hunny and Hikaru from Mori - on the precarious situation they are now in. Thanks to Kaoru's blunt honesty in the previous chapter, Hikaru is now aware of his feelings for a certain female cross-dresser. Hikaru, however, also ponders about his twin's feelings. He doesn't know what he should do, but Kaoru's face certainly speaks more than words when Hikaru catches him looking at Haruhi fondly from a window. The confrontation that ensues soon afterwards reveals that Kaoru won't sit idly by if Hikaru's feelings for Haruhi are half-hearted. Are the brothers now standing on opposing sides?

Notes: In France, Kyoya spends his free time with his bodyguards looking for Tamaki's mother, hoping to confirm her situation. Meanwhile, back in Japan, things are growing even more tumultuous as, after their fight at school, Hikaru is staying at Mori's estate. He believes that Kaoru really hates him now, and doesn't know what to do. Hunny visits the Hitachiin mansion in order to comfort Kaoru, but Kaoru reveals that he knows exactly what he's doing. A few days later, after school, Kaoru and Haruhi go on a date to a commoner's amusement park. Hunny and Mori take Hikaru to the same amusement park as per Kaoru's request. Kaoru takes a giant leap regarding his feelings towards Haruhi, but Hikaru is not far from his mind at all. In fact, everything that Kaoru has been doing lately has been for Hikaru. Kaoru reveals just how much he is willing to sacrifice for his brother, in order for Hikaru to be free.

Notes: Kaoru goes to Mori's estate to retrieve Hikaru and bring him back home. Things seem to resolve themselves, but Hikaru stays up late into the night, thinking over their situation. The next morning, Kaoru wakes up to a surprise. It seems that Hikaru is filling those big brother shoes as he reveals to Kaoru just how much he's grown as an individual. Nothing is lost at all as the twins come to a resolution about who they are and what they're going to do as they face the future. Is this a new beginning? Or something that was inevitable since that day long ago when they opened a clubroom door? One thing for sure is that the twins' bond comes out stronger than ever.
