I know a threesome is very rare (has this ever happened in a series?), but I just had to add this possibility even if it has a slim chance. Though I adore Bisco Hatori and her sense of humor/quirkiness, I doubt even she would go so far as to give her heroine two men. *sighs* But to me, this threesome has a lot of chemistry. These three are the Freshmen Trio and they spend a lot of time together, sitting next to each other in class. Hikaru and Kaoru have their close in-sync relationship, and they both love to tease and flirt with Haruhi. Sometimes she gets flustered and blushes, but other times, she's completely oblivious to their implications. These three share a lot of sweet, if not romantic, moments that turn out to be really humorous. Haruhi is also the only one to ever be able to tell the twins apart. They can't fool her.
Despite all the teasing and flirting, the twins do genuinely like Haruhi. It turns out that they both like her in that way. Will this bring the brothers closer together? Or is this possibly the catalyst that breaks them apart? Of course, fans will cry out at that ever happening, but you can be sure Hatori-sensei has something up her sleeve. Whatever happens, these three will always have connections to each other.
Will it turn into romance? Unlikely.
Will they always have their friendship? Let's hope so.
What about the anime?:
Hikaru, Haruhi and Kaoru share some funny, flirty, and even serious moments together in the anime. They have a very comfortable and particularly affectionate (on the twins' side) friendship. There have been no romantic inclinations including all three of them, other than the outrageous flirting techniques that the twins do only to get a rise out of Tamaki.
