Episode 24 - And Kyoya Met
Japanese Title: Soshite Kyouya wa Deatta
Based On: Volume 8/Chapter 33
Airdate: September 12, 2006
Summary: There is a beginning to every story. And the story of how the Host Club started can be traced back to when Kyoya Ohtori first had the pleasure of meeting the very strange and enthusiastic Tamaki Suoh.
Except it wasn't so much a pleasure as it was a way of pleasing his father.
Back in middle school, Kyoya is the model student, plastering on a polite smile for his classmates, laughing and interacting with them. In reality, he knows each of their backgrounds and the connections he can make by associating himself with them. He is all calculations and preparations beneath his every-day mask. He has everything quite figured out.
But the son of the school chairman is nothing like he expects him to be. He is quite dramatic and affectionate when excited. Kyoya is both frustrated and annoyed with him, labeling the blonde as an "idiot" after their first meeting.
However, when Tamaki wants to go to Kyoto, Kyoya is forced to treat his every whim if he wants a close Suoh connection despite how much the blonde annoys him. Kyoya also tries to satisfy his other requests but Tamaki just continues to frustrate him beyond belief. Fuyumi, Kyoya's older sister, has never seen him so happy.
When Tamaki visits him at his house, Kyoya discovers that it's not certain that Tamaki will inherit the Suoh empire. In fact, Tamaki is hated by his grandmother. He doesn't mind if he doesn't inherit since he can always do other things. Kyoya is angered by that - when Tamaki has something so close, why doesn't he just try harder to get it?! Tamaki's situation is much more favorable than Kyoya's. Kyoya is the third son and has next to zero chance of inheriting, even though he has the confidence that he won't lose out to his brothers, ability-wise.
Kyoya lashes out at Tamaki, shouting at him, but Tamaki replies quite calmly that Kyoya is the one who is giving up and not doing anything.
His words have quite an effect on Kyoya, and suddenly, it looks like the beginning of a great friendship.
Four months later, Tamaki brings up the idea of starting a host club. He even has members in mind - Haninozuka-senpai, Morinozuka-senpai, and the second year twins in middle school. Kyoya listens to his plans, thinking them more absurd with every detail laid out, but if he could see into Tamaki's world, then maybe, he'd be able to see other sceneries quite differently than before.
After all, going anywhere with Tamaki is guaranteed to be anything but boring.
