Episode 16 - Haruhi and Hikaru's First Date Battle Plan

Summary: Arai is an old friend of Haruhi's from junior high. He used to have a crush on her and he confessed, but she rejected him unknowingly because she didn't realize what he was saying. Arai has since gotten over her, though they still seem to be good friends as they catch up on what's been going on in each other's lives.
Hikaru, however, does not welcome Arai as warmly as the other Host Club members do. He insults Arai and puts him down, reacting childishly because of his feelings of jealousy. Haruhi does not appreciate his comments about her friend, and Hikaru angers her so much that she slaps him. Hikaru yells back before running up to his room.
Kaoru, however, has a plan to help smooth things over, while teaching his twin a valuable lesson about compassion and thinking well of others. The plan? Why, a date of course~!
Will Kaoru's first date battle plan succeed? Especially when Arai shows up again, and Hikaru's temper gets the better of him...

Manga Version:
• There is no scene where Kyoya, Hunny, and Mori dress up in their police uniforms and interrogate Haruhi after Arai's story of confession from junior high.
• Kaoru is the one who dresses up Haruhi for the date, not the twin servants.
• The other Host Club members follow Haruhi and Hikaru, but they're disguised. Kaoru is a local boy from Karuizawa. Tamaki and Mori are laborers, while Kyoya and Hunny play the part of tourists (father and daughter XD;;).
• The scene where Hikaru flashes back to Kaoru playing sick (though he doesn't know it) is actually very brief in the manga. The anime expands more on it, and turns Kaoru into the reasonable voice for Hikaru.
• The manga doesn't flash back to when the twins were in junior high.
• When Tamaki looks up at the sky, it's clarified that he's hoping the sun will stay (aka he doesn't want there to be thunder as Haruhi is scared of it).
• After tasting the ice cream, Hikaru comments that it was too bad Kaoru couldn't come. Kaoru almost breaks their cover as he shouts at Hikaru as the couple is leaving. Tamaki restrains him.
• The Host Club spies all take a short break and eat ice cream in the stand as the worker tells them to leave.
• Hikaru calls Kaoru on his cell phone as he's running in the rain, asking him to send a car.
• Tamaki takes the cell from Kaoru and yells at Hikaru.
• The headphones that Hikaru puts on Haruhi are actually not turned on.
• Haruhi falls asleep and Hikaru apologizes to her then.
• The Host Club members find them in the church and bring them back to the pensione.
